Complementary Materials

Space-Grade Silicone Adhesives

Heliofold lists two silicone materials as complementary products for bonding, sealing, and cover-glass integration in spacecraft solar-cell protection stacks.

Adhesive 01

DPA-8800 Structural Silicone Adhesive

DPA-8800 is a two-component room-temperature-curing silicone rubber designed for spacecraft solar-wing bonding, space structural bonding, and sealing.

ItemValue
AppearanceColorless to pale-yellow viscous liquid
Viscosity at 25°C10,000–30,000 mPa·s
Volatile content≤ 3.0%
Mixing ratio A:B100:5 by weight
Cure modeRoom-temperature cure
Pot life≥ 2 h
Surface cure time≤ 24 h
Full cure time≤ 48 h
Best performanceAfter 7 days

Suggested process note: surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of oil or dust. Mix A:B at 100:5 by weight and degas before use. Apply evenly, position the bonded parts, and allow curing under clean conditions.

DPA-8800 Processing

Use, storage, and precautions.

Surface Preparation

Substrates should be clean and dry, with oil, dust, and surface contamination removed before bonding.

Mixing

Mix A:B at 100:5 by weight. Degassing is recommended. The curing agent may be adjusted according to customer gel-time requirements.

Application

Apply evenly, assemble the bonded parts, and position appropriately to maintain interface contact.

Room-Temperature Cure

Initial loading is possible after 24 hours, basic cure occurs after 48 hours, and best performance is reached after 7 days.

Storage / Packaging

Store sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Shelf life is 6 months unopened at room temperature. A and B components are separately packaged and supplied as a kit.

Precautions

Use mixed material within the pot life. Do not load, move, or expose the part to harsh environments before full cure. Avoid skin and eye contact. Users must validate suitability under actual working conditions.

Adhesive 02

GPA-8811 Cover-Glass Bonding Silicone

GPA-8811 is an addition-cure, two-component transparent silicone designed for bonding cover glass to solar cells.

ItemValue
AppearanceTransparent liquid
Viscosity≤ 5,000 mPa·s
Mixing ratio A:B9:1 by weight
Pot life≥ 2 h
Cure time≤ 2 h at 80°C
Use temperature−165°C to 150°C

Suggested process note: mix A:B at 9:1 by weight, degas, and apply to cleaned substrates. Room-temperature pot life is not less than 2 hours. The material can cure within 2 hours at 80°C; curing temperature should not exceed 150°C.

GPA-8811 Processing

Use, storage, and precautions.

Mixing

Mix A:B at 9:1 by weight until uniform, then degas before bonding.

Pot Life / Cure

At room temperature, pot life is not less than 2 hours. The material can cure within 2 hours at 80°C. Higher temperature accelerates cure.

Temperature Limit

The TDS recommends that curing temperature should not exceed 150°C.

Surface Preparation

Clean substrate surfaces with solvent before bonding and allow them to dry before adhesive application.

Clean Process Environment

Keep the work environment clean and avoid catalyst poisoning, which can cause no cure or incomplete cure.

Storage / Precautions

Store sealed in a cool, dry, ventilated place away from sunlight, ignition sources, and heat. Shelf life is 6 months unopened at room temperature. Use mixed material within the pot life and validate suitability under actual conditions.
