Earth's horizon at orbital sunrise

About Heliofold US

A clearer substrate for orbital power.

Heliofold US is focused on Bifacia™, a transparent, space-grade colorless polyimide substrate designed to open rear-side optical access for bifacial solar arrays.

Leadership

A materials-led team focused on Bifacia™.

Frederick Thompson, Founder and CTO of Heliofold US

Frederick Thompson

Founder & CTO

I am the founder and CTO of Heliofold US, a materials-led company developing Bifacia™, a transparent, space-grade colourless polyimide substrate for flexible spacecraft solar arrays.

I hold an integrated Engineering degree from Cardiff University. That training in materials, mechanics, and systems design informs our work on substrates that must endure atomic oxygen, thermal cycling, and repeated flex deployment in low Earth orbit.

Heliofold US has a single, deliberate mission: to advance a single material platform, Bifacia™, so that orbital power systems can harvest more energy from Earth-reflected sunlight (albedo).

By opening rear-side optical access for bifacial cells, Bifacia™ turns the substrate from inactive mass into part of the generating system, while retaining the mechanical stability and process logic expected of a polyimide platform.

Our aim over the next 24 months is to make Bifacia™ the industry standard substrate for LEO/MEO solar arrays.

Ross Thompson

CEO

Ross Thompson is CEO of Heliofold US. He leads commercial execution, partnerships, and the operational path from material samples to integration support for Bifacia™.

A serial entrepreneur and technology investor, he has built and backed businesses across natural resources and emerging industrial technology.

As an active investor in green-energy metals and critical minerals, he brings capital-markets discipline and supply-chain judgement to space-grade solar substrates.

Our mission over the next 24 months is to introduce and deliver Bifacia™ to the LEO and MEO engineering community.

Disciplined execution, combined with world-class technology, will make Bifacia™ the solar substrate of choice for solar array engineers.

Our focus

One material platform, developed with intent.

Heliofold US concentrates its commercial and technical work on Bifacia™ material supply, concept samples, environmental screening, and integration support for flexible bifacial solar arrays.

The product strategy is deliberately focused: help solar-array developers replace opaque amber polyimide with a transparent substrate while retaining the mechanics, dimensional stability, and process logic expected from a polyimide platform.
